Gene Kahane

Background

I've taught for over three decades, starting out as an elementary school teacher, moving onto middle school, and then becoming an English teacher. I'm also a drama director and have produced a variety of plays including "Hamlet," "Nicholas Nickleby," "Wit," "Doubt" and "Angels in America."

Teaching/Educational Philosophy

"Though this be madness, yet there is method in't." This line, spoken by Polonius in "Hamlet," captures my philosophy and style of teaching- provocative, engaging, silly, but always thoughtful.

Personal Note

I'm married, and have two sons, both of whom were students in my class and actors in my plays. I enjoy reading, writing, biking, working part-time at a bookstore, and can often be found in local coffee shops reading, writing and grading.

Education

B.A. 1980 University of New Hampshire
M.A. 1990 San Francisco State University
