Background

I have lived in the Bay Area all my life and enjoy the diversity of the East Bay. I love to explore different cultures and to travel the world. I speak Spanish and want to learn Arabic. Along with making and teaching art, I like to dance, bicycle, cook with family and friends and to spend time in nature.
My own artwork is an amalgam of drawing, painting and collage and is based the ideas of recycling, spirituality, feminism, multiculturalism and the hope for a better world. Please check out my website: www.thecrimsontarot.com

Teaching/Educational Philosophy

What I enjoy most about teaching Art is teaching students to "see and think" like an artist. The best way to do this is to learn how to draw from direct observation. I teach them to metacognate the differences between the way the two brain hemispheres work and to be aware of the flow of the creative Right Brain. The majority of my students feel immediate success and are proud of their artwork, especially those who do not think they are good at art. I also really enjoy recognizing and encouraging talent.
The skills learned in my art classes not only enhance they way they look at the visual world around them, they also transfer to other school subjects and are essential to success in the 21st Century; 21st Century Thinking Skills: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Design and Visual Literacy.
