Katherine Crawford

Background

I have been teaching for over 20 years. I have had the opportunity to teach all grade spans from second grade through adulthood. I have worked as a classroom teacher, a math coach, a secondary literacy coach, a reform coordinator and a professional developer. During my time as a teacher I have had the privilege of participating and leading many different professional development programs at the district, county and state level.

Teaching/Educational Philosophy

I believe all students can learn and that school and education should be a meaningful time of discovery and learning. I am passionate about providing students with a safe, nurturing and engaging place to learn where their gifts are valued and their thinking stimulated. I enjoy working collaboratively with other adults and educators to provide the best instruction and learning environment possible. I want all students to enjoy school and feel and be successful. It is a challenging time in education right now, with the demands of high stakes testing coupled with a severe budget crisis. My goal as a part of the Junior Jets @ EHS team is to help provide a place where students are taught to become lifelong learners who question, challenge and explore the world around them.

Personal Note

I'm very grateful for my opportunity to teach at Encinal High School. I'm ready to soak up the personal and professional growth that will be woven throughout the coming months, and I'm excited to help a group of burgeoning adults master their literacy skills and build a strong sense of self-efficacy.

Education

I attended California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo where the motto is “Learn by Doing.” This philosophy has framed my approach to education. Bachelors of Science, California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo Multiple Subject Teacher Credential - St. Mary's College of California Masters in Educational Leadership - Brandman University Administrative Teaching Credential - Brandman University Supplementary Mathematics Credential - Cal State East Bay
