Emily Kolker

Background

I taught Sociology courses at UMASS-Boston and Brandeis University, and conducted social science research at the college level for several years. After leaving academia, I decided to pursue my dream of helping high school students through their college admissions and career journeys.

Teaching/Educational Philosophy

I believe that access to high quality education and student services is a right, not a privilege, for all students. In college and career advising, I approach each student as a unique individual who should be served to find their "right fit" school and/or career.

Personal Note

I'm married and have a ten year old daughter, Marin. After living on the East Coast for graduate school, our family decided to move back to Oakland to be closer to family and to live again in the city we loved.

Education

B.A., San Francisco State University, Women's Studies (1994) M.A., Brandeis University, Sociology (1999) Certificate, UC Berkeley Extension School, College Admissions and Career Counseling (2014)
