Jean Maggi

A native of the Midwest, but a world-traveler, I enjoy making my home in Northern California where I am able to enjoy both the climate and the culture.  Drawn to the poets and writers of the Beat Generation whose movement originated in the San Francisco Bay Area, I continue to embrace the energy and the power of the language and literature that continues to thrive here.

Teaching/Educational Philosophy

“Do not then train youths to learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so you are better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”  -- Plato

I am committed to be an active part of a collaborative learning environment where I can implement innovative pedagogy and inspire meaningful learning with valued purpose.  I believe High School is a pivotal time for igniting passion, discover, and wonder in order to inspire continued education and life-long learning.  If students are given the opportunity to make connections and take ownership of the material they encounter in the classroom, they are better able to respond to curriculum and instruction in order to extend what they are learning in ways that are meaningful, valuable, and memorable.
